Aluminum Identification, Classification, and Trade Law Seminar

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Custom Aluminum Products, Genoa, IL 60135 · In person only

Format and audience

One day, in person, no repetition.

Doors open at 8:00 AM CT for check-in. The classroom seminar runs from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, followed by a mill tour* of Custom Aluminum Products from 3:30 to 4:30 PM and a free networking reception.

This program is structured and open for customhouse broker personnel handling imported aluminum, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials, and employees of other U.S. Government agencies interested in aluminum enforcement. The program is not geographically restricted; attendance from outside the Chicago area is encouraged. Participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and meal expenses, except for the free shuttle bus. An optional catered lunch can be pre-ordered for $10. Attendance is free for U.S. Government employees.

The seminar, presented by technical, commercial, and legal experts representing the aluminum industry, aims to increase knowledge of aluminum importations among the customhouse broker community and CBP and other U.S. Government officials. Brokers, Government, and the industry all benefit when the people involved in the aluminum import process understand the metal and the specific laws, rules, and regulations that apply to it. The program is revised for each edition to reflect current classification practice and the trade measures in effect. Because fraud, circumvention, and evasion are a significant problem in aluminum trade, the program devotes a full section to them and to current issues.

What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish unwrought aluminum, extrusions, flat-rolled products, foil, wire, castings, and forgings on sight and on paper
  • Apply the principles of classification under HTSUS Chapter 76, including alloyed versus not-alloyed and the heading breaks for bars, rods, profiles, tubes, plates, sheets, and foil
  • Read a mill test certificate and connect alloy and temper designations to the product and its specification
  • Recognize the antidumping and countervailing duty orders, Section 232 measures and derivative-product coverage, and reporting requirements that apply to aluminum imports
  • Spot the red flags of misclassification, transshipment, and evasion, and know how they are investigated

* The mill tour is subject to approval by Custom Aluminum Products.
